Fresh off a major label internship in 2006, Darkerblue (a.k.a. Marcus Simmons) promises to up the ante in 2008. The Southern California born artist/producer/songwriter has been cultivating his talent in New York’s Hip Hop/R &B gene pool for several years. After a brief hiatus in ‘07, he returns to the NYC underground music scene heavily armed with a multitude of tracks and is poised to wreak havoc on the recording industry at large.
Already known in numerous Underground Hip Hop circles in both Southern California, and Memphis, Tennessee, the Brooklyn resident decided to make the move to New York in 2004. Darkerblue is no stranger to the music industry, and has come to learn that sacrifice is sometimes required to get ahead. He began his career in early1999 as an artist with the now defunct Rap group 4 Curses II Death, he then became the Promotions Manager for Memphis’ Kamikaze Productions before going to audio school in New York and learning the business end of the recording industry. Shortly after interning for New Jersey based Mystique Productions in late 2005, he was offered the position of President. Darkerblue turned the job down preferring to work as an intern again, at Sony BMG Music Entertainment. He now finds himself seated as President and C.E.O. of his own record label, Darkerblue Entertainment.
This year Darkerblue continues his path toward success by independently releasing his first solo album, entitled “Dolo LP”, continually featuring on the red-hot “Caligreen Chronicles” Mixtape Series, and producing tracks for local artists while he runs the day to day operations of Darkerblue Entertainment.
